SetDefaultPolicyVersion

Sets the specified version of the specified policy as the policy's default (operative) version.

This operation affects all roles that the policy is attached to. To list the roles that the policy is attached to, use ListEntitiesForPolicy.

Request Parameters

PolicyArn

The Amazon Resource Name (ARN) of the IAM policy whose default version you want to set.

For more information about ARNs, see Amazon Resource Names (ARNs) in the AWS General Reference.

Type: String

Length Constraints: Minimum length of 20. Maximum length of 2048.

Required: Yes

VersionId

The version of the policy to set as the default (operative) version.

For more information about managed policy versions, see Versioning for managed policies in the IAM User Guide.

Type: String

Pattern: v[1-9][0-9]*(\.[A-Za-z0-9-]*)?

Required: Yes

Errors

InvalidInput

The request was rejected because an invalid or out-of-range value was supplied for an input parameter.

HTTP Status Code: 400

LimitExceeded

The request was rejected because it attempted to create resources beyond the current AWS account limits. The error message describes the limit exceeded.

HTTP Status Code: 409

NoSuchEntity

The request was rejected because it referenced a resource entity that does not exist. The error message describes the resource.

HTTP Status Code: 404

InternalError

The request processing has failed because of an unknown error, exception or failure.

HTTP Status Code: 500
